Is there "homework" or anything to do between sessions?

Is there "homework" or anything to do between sessions?

Your therapist in Federal Way and Tacoma may invite you to continue your growth outside the therapy room through gentle “homework” or reflection activities. These are not assignments in the traditional sense. Instead, they’re opportunities to practice the insights and skills you gain during counseling.

What Is Therapy “Homework”?

In therapy, “homework” might look like:

  • Journaling
  • Mindfulness exercises
  • Communication practice
  • Noticing specific thoughts or emotions

Doing these exercises or activities can help real change take root. They’re a way to bridge what you learn in sessions with your everyday life.

How Does It Benefit Me?

Therapy “homework” can help you do the following:

  • Build self-awareness
  • Strengthen coping tools
  • Make progress faster

Applying new strategies between sessions empowers you to take an active role in your healing and growth.

Is “Homework” Required?

Not at all. Counseling is a collaborative process, and your therapist will tailor any suggestions to fit your pace, comfort level, and goals. There’s no pressure!

What If I Don’t Complete My “Homework”?

If you don’t complete an activity, that’s okay. Therapy is a non-judgmental space where your therapist will explore what got in the way and adjust accordingly. The goal is progress, not perfection, and we’ll meet you exactly where you are.
