Do you feel like you struggle in social, professional, and relational situations?
Briana's approach to counseling is real, down to earth, and extremely relatable. Coming into counseling with Briana means knowing you have an ally by your side and support for working with the places/situations/relationships in life that feel hard. Briana creates an immediate non-judgmental, validating, and supportive environment. Her clients feel safe, supported, and heard.
Briana's work focuses on the whole family life cycle of working with children, teens, adults, couples, and families. Briana brings a unique perspective in her work with neurodiverse clients for whom the social and relational world can be somewhat of a mystery, and quite frustrating. If you have found that social situations, work/school situations, relationships, and/or family dynamics have been an ongoing challenge for you (or your child/teen) to navigate, Briana may be the right therapist for you.
Briana brings her unique approach to working with communication, and the understanding of what it takes to be successful socially and relationally.
While it can be easy for someone for whom social and relational situations come naturally to think that this is just automatic stuff that we learn, the reality is that it takes a LOT of moving parts, working together, to have the confidence and ability to thrive in social and relational environments. This holds true in your personal life, your professional/work/school life, and in your relationships.
Whether the challenges stem from having a neurodiverse brain, struggling with anxiety/depression, and/or from previous trauma(s), you don't need to feel stuck and frustrated in not knowing what to do to change things. Or, perhaps you know what you need to do, but really struggle to do it! (We have all been there)
Briana will help you to demystify and break down the dynamics of social and relational interactions. She can help you understand what to look for, why to look for it, and what to do with it. She can also teach you how to improve your communication for improved effectiveness. In your work with Briana, you will develop specific goals and a plan of how you can reach these goals.
With Briana's support, you can also gain skills and strategies to understand what to do when life or certain situations feel overwhelming. Sometimes life feels overwhelming if you are a neurodiverse adult/teen/child living in a neurotypical world. Sometimes life or situations feel overwhelming because your previous experiences, or anxiety and/or depression are running the show. Coming into counseling means discovering more effective ways to manage your emotions. Even the really big ones that we have, no matter what age you are.
In her work with adults and teens, Briana is also experienced in providing support to clients (adults and teens) who identify as LGBTQIA+. Whether the support is to be an ally and safe place to explore the concept of "what I was taught vs. who I am", or to provide support and guidance in coming out and sharing your whole self with your friends and family. Briana is also available to work with LGBTQIA+ couples to increase communication and relationship satisfaction.
Counseling for Children and Teens
In Briana's work with children and teens, she will work with the whole family system as much as possible (and the school system as needed). In addition to her work with neurodiverse clients, she also supports neurotypical kids/teens who are struggling with depression and/or anxiety. With Briana's help, you will uncover what the triggers are that are contributing to the overwhelming feelings, and what to do about them. Utilizing CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), Mindfulness approaches, Family Systems, Play Therapy, and Solution Focused Therapy, you will have immediate tools to use, as well as a therapeutic relationship to help you get down to the "why are these feelings, sensations, emotions present".
