Counseling To Help You Through Life’s Transitions
If you are struggling with feeling overwhelmed by the big (or small) transitions of life, Amelia may be the right therapist for you.
With life comes change, and with change we step into the unknown, which can bring up feelings of anxiety, depression, overwhelm, or just not knowing what step to take next (or how to take it). Amelia will walk alongside you as you navigate these next steps in your life. You don’t have to do this alone!
Amelia has been providing a safe and supportive environment for her client’s healing and growth for more than 25 years. To help her clients, Amelia takes a solution-focused approach to helping you in the here and now. She will also support you in doing the work to dive into the origins of the patterns that are no longer serving you so that these patterns and habitual ways of being that no longer serve you don’t have to run the show anymore.
A collaborative process
In close collaboration with you, Amelia will help you understand and resolve the emotional, mental, spiritual, and physical challenges that arise when your life and circumstances are not in alignment with where you want to be. Amelia will help you learn to close the gap between what you want and the reality of what you are doing and where you are in your life. In closing this gap, you may find that you have an easier time making decisions, and navigating transitions.
Amelia knows from her experience that counseling is about how you take what happens during session and apply it to your life outside of sessions. She will give you exercises, homework, and ways to explore how to engage with your life and relationships a little bit differently during the week(s) between your counseling sessions.
One of life’s biggest transitions, and one that Amelia is well versed in, are the transitions surrounding death and dying. With extensive training in thanatology (death, dying, and bereavement), a background working as a Bereavement Coordinator and Supervisor with Hospice, and having been a former chaplain, Amelia knows intimately the deep experience of loss that comes with the transition from life to death. She has worked extensively with those who are going through this experience themselves, as well as the families and loved ones of those who are making or have made this transition. Amelia believes strongly that the transitions around death, dying, and loss must be processed, integrated, and marked appropriately within our lives. Having walked this road with so many, she is uniquely prepared to support you if this is a transition that you or a loved one are going through.
Counseling for Couples
Amelia’s style of couple’s counseling is direct, engaged, and will support you both in rediscovering your connection with each other.
If communication is a struggle in your relationship, Amelia will help you learn more effective ways of engaging with each other from a place of mutual respect and honoring of each person as well as the relationship. If trust and intimacy are challenging within your relationship, Amelia will help you both understand and address the underlying patterns that may be sabotaging your connection and trust with each other within your partnership. In exploring your beliefs, values, and expectations of relationships, you will be in a better position to build a sustainable and resilient relational foundation moving forward.
Additionally, from her experience working at the Seattle Counseling Center for Sexual Minorities, Amelia is experienced and trained to support individuals as well as couples who identify as LGBTQIA.
